Iola Spring Tournament
Summer Tournaments Start in Iola!

The Iola Winter Sports Club will be holding the annual Brady Emerson Memorial ski jumping tournament on Sunday, June 8th starting at 1:00.

The NON-SANCTIONED competition will be on the K30 meter hill.  In addition to the regular competition there will a longest standing comp. We have huge trophies to be won for both the absolute longest jump, and for the longest jump plus handicap, that virtually gives anyone a chance to win.  Also, the prestigious Brady Emerson Award will be presented to the events Most Graceful skier.

The Aasen's will have Subway subs available to purchase at the hill on Sunday, along with soft drinks.

You are welcome to camp at the hill, or the Norseman Motel (715) 445-3300 has reasonable rates.  There is also a Best Western in Waupaca.  There is still some rooms left at Ricchio's, Cady's, or Aasen's.

The hill will be open for training all day Saturday starting at 10:00.  Elizabeth Anderson from Eau Claire will be in Iola to provide great coaching for the skiers.
This will be a great hill for the kids to start the summer ski season, and we hope to see many of you here for a great time.

Additional information:  Tom Ricchio (715) 281-5752

Summer Nordic Combined Opportunities
Please mark the following dates on your calendars- these are opportunities for any and ALL jumpers (not just nordic combined athetes) to learn some cross country techniques and HAVE SOME FUN. I have acquired a bunch of roller ski poles of various sizes, so kids can bring their roller blades or even try out some of our roller skis.

June 21-22- Blackhawk camp - We will practice some "hillbounding" and technique work for about an hour on Saturday (bring poles if you have them), and Sten Fjeldheim, head coach of the NMU (Northern Michigan University) ski team will be available to assist older kids who wish to work on rollerski technique. Also, there will be an NC race as part of the Sunday Competition.
.
July 26-27- St Paul camp- Sten has offered to work with kids this weekend as well.

July 29-Aug 2- Park City (SpringerTournee NC foot races; start sleeping in your high altitude tents now!)

August 14-17- Marquette, MI- This is an exciting chance to learn technique and possibly a session on the roller ski treadmill and use of the NMU facilities.  There are many fun recreational activities in the area which we are planning- biking, trail running, cliff jumping in the Big Lake, etc. For older athletes interested in developing a training program, for a small fee they could have lactate threshold testing done which would be very beneficial. Please let me know IMMEDIATELY if you have interest so we can plan, since we may pursue lodging at the Olympic Education Center if enough athletes can attend. The cost will be very nominal- no coaching fees, and lodging will be pursued to be as inexpensive as possible, as above.
Norge's camps this summer will feature some NC-type activities!
Fall - NC dates are still pending and notification will occur later.

For those unable to attend these offerings, I encourage you to simply stay active- run, bike, play soccer, rollerblade- get that heart pumping a few times a week and you will be in shape for the winter season. If anyone has questions about training or any NC issues, please don't hesitate to contact me. Hope to see you soon!

SUPPORT WOMEN'S SKI JUMPING!  *  New Stuff Available!

Central junior women's ski jumper Karin Friberg sent the following note regarding new women's ski jumping t-shirts and souvenirs available via online order:

I designed t-shirts for all the girls.  I especially thought it would be cool for all the girls attending the girls camp in park city to have one, but they are open for anyone to buy!  The URL for ordering is www.cafepress.com/centralwomen.  Also note that even though it says Baby as one of the headers, I really included a child's size t-shirt, which happens to be put under that category.  Unfortunately the kid's shirts didn't come in pink. So if you want a pink one, it has to be in women's sizes.
