- Divisional Junior
Ranking Lists
We initiated this page in the 2004
season for Central Division season standings, and recognized
individual skiers who possessed the lead (yellow jersey) at any given time
throughout the season. This applies to Junior classes J1, J2, and J3 only.

- A new points system was
adopted in 2004 for the Central Division's J1 (16,17 yrs), J2 (14,15 yrs),
and J3 (12,13 yrs) classes. The points system is similar to that used for
determining national rankings, and was developed by Kip Kopelke, Central
Development Team coach. A set of special competition bibs were created,
and were introduced at the 2004 season opener in Coleraine. The bibs, and
publication of standings on the web, has been a hit with athletes,
parents, and coaches.
-
- Similar to the Tour de
France, the season leader in each class wears a yellow bib. The winner of
the previous meet (if not the overall leader) wears a red bib. Color-coded
ranking lists are calculated by Kip, processed by Dave Norby, then
published here within a day or two.
-
- This points and bib
system, coupled with quick update of cumulative standings, has helped to
draw interest to the sport over the season, rather than just individual
events. Most widely-followed sports, including all major US spectator
sports, and World Cup ski jumping (and other skiing disciplines) maintain
and publicize standings throughout the season.
-
- People tend to be more
interested in a sport if they can identify competitors and follow
standings. The bibs will help with recognition at an event; having the
kind of info on the website that might appear in a program will give our
visitors some sense of who our athletes are, and perhaps to have a
favorite or two if they can make it to a tournament.
-
- The list at
right provides links to bio info and photos of athletes who have scored a
class win at any tournament, or assumed series points leadership at any
time during the season.
